The Walk Rule

When a male batter walks with a female on deck, he advances 2 bases instead of 1!

Strategy Tip:

Place females before "patient" male batters who take pitches. This maximizes the walk rule advantage!

Macedonia Co-Ed Rules

Team Composition

  • • Maximum of 11 defensive players (not 10 like standard softball)
  • • Minimum of 4 females must be on the field at all times
  • • Up to 13 batters allowed (11 fielders + DH + EH)
  • • No male/female batting order restrictions

Defensive Positions

  • • Infield (6): P, C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B
  • • Outfield (5): LF, LCF, MM (rover), RCF, RF
  • • The 5th outfielder (rover/MM) is unique to 11-player co-ed

Home Plate Safety

  • • Safety bag at home plate - runner uses outside bag
  • • Force play at home - no collisions
  • • Runner must use commitment line rules

Home Run Limit

  • • Maximum 5 home runs per team per game
  • • Any HR after the 5th is an OUT
  • • Encourages small ball and strategy

One Nation Softball Rules

Macedonia league follows One Nation sanctioning. Key rules:

Pitching

  • • Pitch must arc between 6-12 feet
  • • Pitch must be delivered underhand
  • • Pitching distance: 50 feet
  • • Illegal pitch = ball (unless batter swings)

Batting

  • • Strike zone: behind the plate to batter's back shoulder
  • • Foul ball with 2 strikes = OUT
  • • Bunting is NOT allowed
  • • Bat must be on approved bat list

Base Running

  • • No leading off or stealing bases
  • • Runner cannot leave until ball is hit
  • • Must avoid contact with fielders
  • • Sliding is allowed but not required

Game Play

  • • 7 innings (or time limit)
  • • Run rule: 15 after 4 innings, 10 after 5 innings
  • • Courtesy runners allowed for catcher/pitcher
  • • Re-entry allowed for starters

Equipment

  • • 12" ball for co-ed
  • • Metal cleats NOT allowed
  • • Gloves required for all fielders
  • • Batting helmets optional for adults
